So I’ve already talked about Why should you move to Slovakia, Why should you NOT move to Slovakia and generally What do you need to know before moving to Slovakia, today it is important to talk about the bureaucracy of moving to Slovakia, be it Bratislava or Kosice, Presov, Levoca, Poprad etc.
Visa Requirements
Depending on your country of origin, you may or may not need a visa to be able to live in Slovakia.
EU/EEA and Switzerland citizens
If you are an EU/EEA and Switzerland citizen you move to Slovakia for longer than three months (90 days) without needing a visa. After arriving in the country, you need to register your residence within 30 days at the competent Foreign Police Department, together with the documents that they will require you to submit. You will be allowed to live, work and study in Slovakia.
Non-EU/EEA and Switzerland citizens
Third-country nationals wanting to move to Slovakia for longer than 90 days need to obtain a D visa (long-stay visa). The type of long-stay visa you apply for depends on the purpose of your stay. For example, you can get a long-stay visa for work, studies, family reunification, etc.
Once you are granted any type of long-stay visa, you will also be granted a residence permit (temporary, permanent, tolerated).
Can I Bring My Personal Belongings to Slovakia?
Again, it depends on where are you relocating from. If you are moving to Slovakia from an European Union country, you can import your belongings duty-free otherwise you might be subject to customs duties such as import and excise duties and value-added tax (VAT). However, in some cases even non-EU proceeding belongings, can be exempt from import duties.
Personal items such as furniture, clothing, personal belongings, appliances, computers, vehicles (bikes, motorcycles, cars) can be brought duty-free if they are imported in a consignment and the intrinsic value does not exceed €150, regardless of how many goods are in the consignment or your belongings are imported by you personally when returning from a third country. If by air, the value of the goods does not exceed €430 or the value of goods does not exceed €300 if by other means of transport.
Can I Move to Slovakia With Pets?
For some, pets are a member of the family and it is very important to know how or if you can bring them with you to Slovakia. The good new is that yes, you can in fact bring your pets with you.
